Issue

  • Unable to assemble imsm raid container in kernel-3.10.0-1160.31.1.el7.x86_64 or higher.
##RAID device is getting activated with older kernel.

$cat uname 
Linux localhost.localdomain 3.10.0-1160.25.1.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Apr 13 18:55:45 EDT 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$cat proc/mdstat 
Personalities : [raid1] 
md126 : active (auto-read-only) raid1 nvme0n1[1] nvme1n1[0]
      1484657664 blocks super external:/md127/0 [2/2] [UU]

md127 : inactive nvme1n1[1](S) nvme0n1[0](S)
      10402 blocks super external:imsm

But with newer version unable to activate or assemble RAID

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.9
    • kernel-3.10.0-1160.31.1.el7.x86_64 or higher.
    • Intel imsm RAID container.
