SD/MMC/SDHC card reader identified as "Ricoh Co Ltd Device e823" does not get detected

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

When using an upstream kernel, the SD/MMC/SDHC card reader is recognized:

sdhci: Secure Digital Host Controller Interface driver
sdhci: Copyright(c) Pierre Ossman
sdhci-pci 0000:0d:00.0: SDHCI controller found [1180:e823] (rev 5)
sdhci-pci 0000:0d:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
mmc0: no vmmc regulator found
mmc0: SDHCI controller on PCI [0000:0d:00.0] using DMA

On a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1, the sdhci-pci driver is not loaded automatically, and loading it manually does not detect mmc0.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1
  • Lenovo ThinkPad with integrated MMC/SD/SDHCI as a PCI device
