Tomcat shows random and intermittent request delays that are not reflected in the access log's response time

Issue

  • We are intermittently seeing request delays from Tomcat. We capture response times in our access logs, and the delays are never reflected here as the indicated response time is still an expected amount of time.
  • We see long response times from Tomcat, but application logging indicates the request still processed within an expected amount of time once it reached the app. It looks like the request was delayed between Tomcat receiving the request from the client and the request reaching the application code.
