While using active-passive luns (managed by Veritas dmp), will rebuilding of initrd with "scsi_dh_rdac" module help to reduce the Buffer I/O error messages?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Server startup and fdisk -l is very slow. The messages file displays Buffer I/O errors which is expected behaviour for Active/Passive SAN. Red Hat multipathing & kernel module scsi_dh_rdac suppresses this. However for simplicity, we would just like to utilise the Veritas software stack. Is it possible to configure things so that a fdisk -l is as quick as it should be.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.
  • Veritas DMP to manage Active/Passive SAN.
  • LVM used to manage only a root volume, created on /dev/cciss/* devices.
