Fencing in my cluster always fails once before succeeding in RHEL 5

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • When I attempt to fence a cluster node with fence_node, or the cluster attempts to fence on its own, the first attempt always fails, followed by the second attempt succeeding:

    Aug 11 20:00:45 node1 fenced[12635]: fencing node "node2.example.com"
    Aug 11 20:00:55 node1 fenced[12635]: agent "fence_ilo" reports: Unable to connect/login to fencing device
    Aug 11 20:00:55 node1 fenced[12635]: fence "node2.example.com" failed
    Aug 11 20:01:00 node1 fenced[12635]: fencing node "node2.example.com"
Aug 11 20:01:04 node1 ccsd[12596]: Attempt to close an unopened CCS descriptor (480).
Aug 11 20:01:04 node1 ccsd[12596]: Error while processing disconnect: Invalid request descriptor
    Aug 11 20:01:04 node1 fence_node[12756]: Fence of "node2.example.com" was successful
