RHEL 5 removed machine check (MCE) support for Intel Nehalem and newer CPUs

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • RHEL 5 removed machine check (MCE) support for Intel Nehalem and newer CPUs (family 6, model >= 26). This will not effect support for older CPUs were MCE was supported.
  • The MCE code in previous releases of RHEL 5.x was considered technology preview for the support of Intel Nehalem and newer CPUs. This code was found to produce false positives, and had problems with correctable errors. It was determined to move future work on MCE code to RHEL 6, and remove the problematic code from RHEL 5.

Environment
