USB Printers Fail Intermittently in RHEL

Issue

  • I was able to print a few things correctly, but then I tried to print a PDF and it didn't go so well.
  • My USB printer fails intermittently. It will work for a while after unplugging the printer and then reconnecting, or after power cycling the printer, but it eventually fails again.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 and 7
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS)
  • Printer connected via USB (Universal Serial Bus)
