How can I use a dhcpd to both deploy linux and also be able to forward dhcp requests to an Altiris server for deployment of i.e. Windows?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • windows/linux/other clients are installed via PXE

  • their DHCP requests are forwarded by a DHCP helper which just forwards to a single IP address

  • on this IP a linux dhcp daemon is listening
  • linux deployments should be performed for the IPs doing the dhcp request, alternatively deployment using a HP Insight Server  Deployment Version 6.3 (based on Altiris Deplyoment Solution 6.9) should be possible

Environment

  • Linux and Windows servers installed using PXE

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) running DHCP server

  • a dhcp helper forwarding dhcp requests to the IP address of the DHCP server
  • HP Insight Server Deployment Version 6.3 (a software based on Altiris Deplyoment Solution 6.9)
