RHV memory hot unplug fails on RHEL 8 guests

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When memory is hot unplugged from a RHEL 8 virtual machine, the memory decreases by approximately 1 GB for a short period then returns back to the original configured memory value.

    • The virtual DIMM never disappears and is still available for Hot Unplug.
    • Repeated attempts to Hot Unplug does not make any difference.

Environment

  • Red Hat Virtualization (RHV) 4.4
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8
