"No transaction to process" on trying to update using the software update GUI

Issue

  • This is an Apache/PHP server. Software Updates reports that it has 5 updates available, including an update for PHP to php-5.3.3-3.el6(x86_64) [the others are associated php updates]
  • Yet when Its told to proceed, it comes back with Transaction error

    Error: No transaction to process
    
  • From the yum-errors.log, found the following errors:

    ---> Package php.x86_64 0:5.3.2-6.el6_0.1 will be updated
