Why does Java Mail not work with SSL in JBoss after upgrading to 5.x?

Issue

I upgraded from EAP 4.3 to 5.1 and my application is no longer able to send emails. The same SSL certificates work in EAP 4.3. However, I see the following exception on EAP 5.1.

java.io.IOException: Can't verify identity of server: smtpserver.test.redhat.com
```
