After disabling weak encryption on Satellite, older RHEL 6 clients cannot connect to Satellite.

Issue

  • Older Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems(such as RHEL 6.7) produce the error [Errno 14] problem making ssl connection when connecting to a Red Hat Satellite with weak encryption disabled.

  • Complete example of the error:

    [root@rhel67 ~]# yum repolist
Loaded plugins: product-id, security, subscription-manager
https://satellite.example.com/pulp/repos/acme/Library/content/dist/rhel/server/6/6Server/x86_64/extras/os/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] problem making ssl connection
