Recommended Practice: AMQ Disaster Recovery For A Cross-Datacenter Setup

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • What is Red Hat's recommendation for an AMQ Active/Passive setup spanning multiple datacenters where there is a requirement for a zero RPO constraint (no data-loss).

  • We have a disaster recovery scenario where one of our two datacenters might be shut down by a disaster while the other as to take over the processing with no loss of data. In this scenario we have to guarantee that no message will be lost during the disaster and fail-over to the second datacenter. How could we guarantee that ?

    • Our current infrastructure guarantees that because we use low-level file system redundancy synchronization for the AMQ journal file system between the two datacenters. What options do we have if this low-level file system synchronization solution is no longer in place?
  • There is a requirement to restore the AMQ 6 and AMQ 7 to a specific point in time. How can this be achieved?

  • I'd like to know if like for AMQStreams a service like 'Kafka broker' is available for AMQ Broker. I've two Openshift installation on two datacenter and I'd like to design the best application to manage an 'active-passive' Disaster scenario.

Environment

  • Red Hat AMQ
    • 7.x, 6.x
      • Cross-datacentre setup
