Does Red Hat Support Redundant File Storage on MSAzure (zero RPO)

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

Currently we have an active/passive AMQ topology spanning multiple datacenters with zero RDO made possible with Veritas/Symantec file storage redundancy feature to allow smooth recovery of the AMQ storage (aka journal) to the passive instance with a zero RPO constraint (no data-loss).

If we move to MsAzure cloud, we are looking for a feature that could achieve the same behaviour across two MsAzure Availability Zones (equivalent to datacenters).
Now it would appear `zone redundancy can be achieved in MsAzure with the help of ZRS FileStorage which has to be mounted as SMB on the AMQ host (which in our case runs RHEL) and will ensure that what's written in this storage will be zone redundant and so available for the recovery zone.

  • The article https://access.redhat.com/articles/310613 mentions a compatibility with CIFS/SMB (on Windows). Does that mean that this is not compatible with Linux ?
  • Could you please confirm that having a SMB mounted filesystem for the AMQ live journal file storage on Red Hat Linux is safe as regard to a zero RPO goal in case of Disaster Recovery procedure ?

Environment

  • Red Hat AMQ
    • 6.x, 7.x
    • zero Recovery Point Objective (RPO)
    • cross datacenter setup (active/passive mode)
    • SMB mounted filesystem for the AMQ live journal file
  • Microsoft Azure (MSAzure)
