RHEL NVMe hotplug at times fails to recognise a plugged in disk.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

At Random times NVMe will not hotplugin a disk that was earlier removed.
The following will show in /var/log/messages with XXXXX representing a valid disk name.

kernel: nvme XXXXX: Device not ready; aborting initialisation
kernel: nvme XXXXX: Removing after probe failure status: -19

This disk is then lost until the NVME driver is reloaded.

Environment

  • RedHat Entreprize Linux Versions 7 & 8
    • NVMe PCIe hotplugable disk
