Mounting OS X 10.8 share with RHEL 5 errors with "mount error(22): Invalid argument"

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Attempting to mount a SMB share on a OS X 10.8+ with CIFS fails with an "Invalid argument" error. For example:
[root@taiyaki example]# mount -t cifs //ayu-server/share /mnt/ayu -o username=ayu,domain=exmpl,password=pass
mount error(22): Invalid argument
  • The same CIFS mount functions in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
