What happens in EDS when the query timeout has been reached?

Issue

I would like to know if a query has reached the max timeout value set in the VDB timeout setting what will happen to the main request and also the individual federated queries? Will it cancel the request and sources queries at the same time? Will an error be thrown to indicate it has reached the limit?
