RHEL5 installation not working, kernel panic during installer boot

Issue

I can't build any RHEL 5 servers. At the beginning of the installation kernel boot I get a kernel panic and a No filesystem could mount root error message that looks like this:

RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0
crc error
EXT2-fs: unable to read superblock
isofs_fill_super: bread failed, dev=md1, iso_blknum=16, block=32
No filesystem could mount root, tried: ext2 iso9660
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(9,1)
