Partitions Get Re-assigned

Issue

Hi,

I am trying to delete multiple partitions using fdisk.

If I delete one and its number gets assigned to another, i might delete a partition i don't mean to delete, if I keep going by the original partition numbers

Let's say there are 10 partitions, say, /dev/sda1 to /dev/sda10. When I delete /dev/sda5, for example, another partition gets named /dev/sda5. The partition numbers get re-assigned serially when a numbered partition in the sequence is deleted.

For example, I have /dev/sda1 to /dev/sda14. I deleted /dev/sda13 and /dev/sda14 got re-assigned a new number after I deleted /dev/sda13; the former /dev/sda14 became /dev/sda13; The new /dev/sda13 is actually the former /dev/sda14.

If I continue to delete partitions by picking them by the original number, I would end up deleting the wrong partitions.
