RHEL8: DFS provided SMB shares are not accessible following unprivileged access

Issue

  • DFS cifs multiuser mounts become unmounted when accessed by processes without a valid kerberos key.
  • # rsync no longer works after a different users run # df
  • A SMB share is mounted, but is not listed in # df output or in /proc/self/mounts

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • SMB/SMB2+ shares mounted with the multiuser mount option
  • SMB2
  • DFS
  • Kerberos
