RHV - Failed to add a new 2TB preallocated disk to a VM

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

The environment consists of 3 RHV hosts and 3 RHGS hosts.

It behaves stable during normal operations, but problems appear when we add to a VM a large "Preallocated" disks of size higher than 1.5TB , IO timeouts appear in the 3 RHV hosts , causing several VMs to pause.

Adding Thin-provisioned disks do not cause problems.

Environment

  • Storage provided by a 3 node RHGS 3.5 cluster:
    glusterfs-6.0-29.el7rhgs.x86_64
    kernel-3.10.0-1062.12.1.el7.x86_64

  • Virtualization on a 3 node RHV 4.3 cluster.
