Why might my clustered nfs share appear to hang after failing the service over between nodes in RHEL?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • If the NFS service starts on node1 and is relocated to node2, client reconnects after 17 second pause.  If service is than relocated back to node1, client connection hangs for 15 minutes.  During this period a second client can successfully connect to the NFS server.
  • Client reconnection to clustered nfs server fails or hangs on cluster failback.

Environment

  • Red Hat Cluster Suite 4
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5 (with the High Availability or Resilient Storage Add Ons)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (with the High Availability or Resilient Storage Add Ons)
  • Clustered service configured in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf containing nfsexport and nfsclient resources
