How do I associate my system with a channel so I can run the update utility?

Updated -

If the system in question is not yet registered with Red Hat Network (RHN), you must first register your system with RHN by running rhn_register or up2date --register. Once complete, you should be automatically subscribed to an appropriate channel based on the information found in the /etc/redhat-release file. However, if this is not the case you may be able to change your channel subscription using the RHN website.

To change your channel subscription login to RHN and click on the "Systems" link in the left menu, then choose "All." Then select the system you want to modify by clicking on it. You should then see a link that reads "Alter Channel Subscriptions," which will bring you to a menu where you can select the channels to which you want a system to be subscribed.

If you do not see the base channel or subchannel you want or you receive a message similar to "This assignment would exceed your allowed subscriptions in one or more channels," please contact customer service at 1-888-REDHAT1.

Note: You must have an available entitlement in order for you system to have a base channel associated with it.
