JBoss A-MQ 6.0; client connection logs "dispatch paused, waiting for outstanding dispatch interruption processing"

Issue

• periodically a client org.apache.activemq.ActiveMQConnection appears to get into an invalid stated where it keeps logging "dispatch paused, waiting for outstanding dispatch interruption processing" and messages do not seem to be dispatched to the consumer attached to the that connection.
