Resolution

The Oracle Time Zone Update (TZUpdater) tool updates timezone information for the Oracle JDK/JRE.

It is required if the application depends on timezone information that has changed since the application was tested/deployed. If the application is not impacted by timezone changes, it would not be needed.

The Oracle Time Zone Update (TZUpdater) tool is for Oracle JDK/JREs only. It is not relevant to any other OpenJDK distro (e.g. Red Hat build of OpenJDK, Adoptium Temurin, etc).

For the Red Hat build of OpenJDK, see How do I keep the Red Hat build of OpenJDK timezone information updated?.
