In RHEL 6, if nfsiostat is run by a script in the background with stdout redirected to a file, output is lost if the process is killed

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • I am trying to script capturing the nfsiostat output. If I use something more aggressive like "pkill nfsiostat", then the child process does end, but the output file is empty or contains only what nfsiostat flushed before dying. In other words, the buffer is not flushed to the output file, as one would expect since the process doesn't terminate gracefully.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise 6.4
  • nfs-utils-1.2.3-36.el6.x86_64
