Unable to attach the 'Red Hat Enterprise Linux Developer Suite' subscription to a 'Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop 7.x' system

Issue

When I try to attach the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Developer Suite subscription to my Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop 7.x system, the process fails:

# subscription-manager attach --auto

Status:       Not Subscribed

Unable to find available subscriptions for all your installed products.

When I try to do the same by specifying the pool ID of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Developer Suite subscription, the process succeeds, but the subscription-manager status command returns Overall Status: Invalid:
