Kdump is configured properly but kdump service fails

Issue

  • kdump is configured as per kdump documentation but service kdump fails with the following error.
    #service kdump start

    Memory for crashkernel is not reserved
    Please reserve memory by passing "crashkernel=X@Y" parameter to the kernel
    Stopping kdump:                                            [FAILED]
    No kdump initial ramdisk found.                            [WARNING]
    Rebuilding /boot/initrd-2.6.18-164.el5kdump.img
    Starting kdump:                                            [FAILED]
  • Memory for crashkernel is reserved:
    kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.11.1.el5 ro root=/dev/sysvg/root crashkernel=128M@16M
