Why RHV hosts are not booting into newer layer after upgrade

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • The hosts were upgraded successfully without any error. However after a reboot, the hosts by default boots into the older layer instead of the new one.
  • The grub menu shows newly created layer. However, the default option is marked as the older one. The user has to explicitly select the new layer in the grub menu for booting into the new layer.

Environment

  • Red Hat Virtualization Host 4.3.
  • Servers booted with UEFI mode.
