Prevent JBossWS from converting escape characters?

Issue

• We are sending a raw HTTP POST request to a JBossWS webservice that returns a String. If I populate the contents of the String with either a "<" or ">" character then JBossWS converts it to "<" or ">" respectively. How can I override this behavior?
