system is not reachable through ssh while performing an upgrade from RHEL8.0 to RHEL8.1: "Bad configuration option: CASignatureAlgorithms"

Issue

  • While a system upgrade is performed from RHEL8.0 to RHEL8.1, users cannot login using ssh

  • During the upgrade, the system journal shows sshd.service not starting properly with the following messages

    systemd[1]: Starting OpenSSH server daemon...
sshd[XXX]: command-line: line 0: Bad configuration option: CASignatureAlgorithms
systemd[1]: sshd.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
systemd[1]: sshd.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
systemd[1]: Failed to start OpenSSH server daemon.
