mcelog in daemon mode can't log to just syslog

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • The version of mcelog shipped in RHEL6 automatically enables logging to /var/log/mcelog when run as a daemon, and provides no clean way to disable that and log only to syslog.
  • Our log monitoring/management infrastructure requires all logs be routed through syslog. There is a proposed patch to fix this problem:

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
