Server gets hung during mdraid resync operation

Issue

  • The system is intermittently getting hung during mdraid resync operation. We have collected a vmcore from server manually using SysRq utility while it was hung, need RCA for the same.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
    kernel version older than 2.6.32-642.el6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
    kernel version older than 3.10.0-327.el7
  • MD RAID 1 (Software Raid)
