Printer cannot be enabled using the "lpc" command in RHEL

Issue

  • We have a printer on a server which is showing disabled (other printers are enabled) and I am unable to enable it. See below for status of printers using lpc command:

    $ lpc
    lpc> status
    myprinter1:
            printer is on device 'socket' speed -1
            queuing is enabled
            printing is disabled
            no entries
            daemon present
    lpc> enable myprinter1
    Enable is not implemented by the CUPS version of lpc.
    lpc>
    

    How do I enable this printer?

  • printer has 4 suspended jos

    #  lpc status pr12543ag
    pr12543ag:
            printer is on device 'socket' speed -1
            queuing is enabled
            printing is enabled
            4 entries
            daemon present
    

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, 5, 6
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) 1.1.22, 1.3,7, 1.4.2
