[Satellite 6] While upgrading katello-ca-consumer package on the client system registered to Satellite or capsule, it reverts rhsm.conf to point to CDN/RHN

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

When we upgrade the katello-ca-consumer package on our client systems registered to a Satellite 6 instance, the client system can become unable to communicate with the Satellite Server and produce one of the following errors:

  • error: [Errno 111] Connection refused
  • HTTP error (400 - Bad Request): Organization EXAMPLE_Org does not exist.

After checking content of the /etc/rhsm/rhsm.conf file we can see, that the hostname= definition is no longer pointing to the Satellite Server.

Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 6.4, 6.5, 6.6 and 6.8
  • usually newly upgraded from 6.3 to 6.4
  • usually newly upgraded from 6.4 to 6.5
