  • I'm getting a print filter error written to standard output when attempting to create printer within CUPS:

  • The output of lpstat includes the following messages:

printer lp12 is idle. enabled since Thu 06 Oct 2016 07:08:16 PM GMT
Filter "/usr/lib64/cups/filter/foomatic-rip" for printer "lp12" not available: No such file or directory

  • We added a new PPD (PostScript Printer Definition) file on our server but we get the following message when trying to add a printer that uses the PPD file:

printer 'device-name' requires the '/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip' program but it is not currently installed. Please install it before using this printer.
