[QA][6.0] "dump -w" command doesn't report information of an ext4 filesystem.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Even if an entry of an ext4 filesystem is included in /etc/fstab, "dump -w" doesn't report information of the ext4 filesystem.

  • BZ#444534 says that ext4 support by the dump command will be available in RHEL6.  Please see below.

After discussion ext4 support won't be available in RHEL5.

Ext4 support requires improved e2fsprogs-libs with ext4 support.
From e2fsprogs-libs maintainer perspective it will be so difficult and
invasive to extend the library thus dump with ext4 will be available
  in RHEL6.

  • Will you please clarify if ext4 is supported by dump/restore commands in the upcoming RHEL6.0?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0GA
  • Architecture: x86_64
  • Kernel Version: 2.6.32-71.el6.x86_64
  • Related Package Version: dump-0.4-0.5.b42.el6.x86_64
