'dracut' command takes excessive amount of time during upgrade from RHEL 6.10 to 7.6

Issue

  • Upgrade from RHEL 6.10 to 7.6 using the redhat-upgrade-tool takes excessive amount of time to complete. It was found that dracut process was taking significantly longer to complete.

    While running strace on dracut process it was found to be taking ~2 hours time to complete. The strace logs for dracut process also showed lots of following messages during this delay:
