iostat Functionality for Tape Devices / Provide Tape Statistics via sysfs

Issue

• Provide the ability to monitor the read/write performance of their tape drives during use, prefereably with iostat or some similar utility.
  • This is currently not possible as the kernel does not expose any internal tape metrics to user-space.
  • Code providing the functionality has been submitted upstream by a 3rd party but has not yet gained acceptance by the upstream kernel community.
