Why do I see the following message "This operation might be unrecoverable and destructive!" when trying to re-add a storage domain to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager?

Issue

After restoring our RHEV environment from backup we no longer had a storage domain that was added after the backup was taken.
While trying to re-add the missing storage domain the following message appears:

This operation might be unrecoverable and destructive!
The following LUNs are already in use:
- <LUN ID> (Used by VG: <VG ID>)
