Why data write fails beyond the original size after extending the file system?

Issue

After extending a file system online, not able to write data to the new size.
df command shows the space is available but write is not possible beyond the initial size

Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on

/dev/mapper/Volgroup00-testlv
                      6.9G   12M  6.6G   1% /mnt

Data writes beyond the original file system size fails with error No space left on device
