Does Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 contain a tool for freezing a filesystem?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Since kernel-2.6.18-164.el5 (RHEL5.4), we have backported a new feature, which allows users to temporaily freeze a file system. This is useful for taking hardware snapshots and backup. A userland tool named fsfreeze is available for RHEL 5 in the util-linux package, beginning with version 2.13-0.59.el5. This tool can be used to manually freeze or thaw a filesystem.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 or later
  • kernel-2.6.18-164.el5 or later
