Pop-up error when starting system-config-lvm: "IOR file '/tmp/gconfd-root/lock/ior' not opened successfully"

Issue

• starting system-config-lvm gives a pop-up error message:

  Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to 
  enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash.
