yum or RPM operations seem to take forever

Issue

  • Running any yum or rpm operation seems to be stuck and command prompt does not come back.
  • It is not possible to stop the task by ^C; only by ^Z and then a kill -9 against the failed proccess PID.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
