[Satellite 6] Is it possible to have a capsule not connect back to the satellite?
Environment
- Red Hat Satellite 6
- Red Hat Capsule 6
Issue
- We are looking at deploying a capsule into a DMZ where satellite server will have full access to the capsule - but the capsule will not be able to initiate a session back to the satellite. Is this possible?
Resolution
- It is not possible. The External Capsule needs to communicate with Red Hat Satellite.
-
Unfortunately, it is not feasible to operate an External Capsule without communication with the Red hat Satellite server. The Capsule relies on this connection for proper functioning and to carry out its designated tasks.
-
Please check the Capsule Networking for more info about the architecture.
Root Cause
- The communication between the External Capsule and the Red Hat Satellite is essential for several fundamental features to work properly. Functions such as system registration, provisioning, synchronization, and more heavily rely on this communication. Operating a Capsule without establishing a connection to the Satellite is not supported, as it would result in the loss of these critical features.
