JBoss ESB FTP Gateway query

Issue

We have 2 SOA-P instances and we are considering to using FTP Gateways in each SOA-P instance to fetch a file from one of the local directories (depending on which gateway picks up the file first). We want to avoid the same file being processed twice on different SOA-P instances. Is that safe configuration, if we assume FTP gateways have also write access?
