Can device-mapper-multipath package be removed with out impacting the System?

Can the device-mapper-multipath package be removed without causing issues with mounted logical volumes and filesystems.

It is causing issues with the NetApp SAN utilities and NetApp support wants it removed before they continue with troubleshooting problem.
