weak-modules is not completed and consumes many CPU resources

Issue

  • A bash process running weak-modules command exists for long time, and consumes many CPU resources. ps aux shows:

    grid     12616 87.3  0.1 159860 45172 ?        R    18:02 239:44 /bin/bash /sbin/weak-modules --verbose --dry-run --no-initramfs --add-modules

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • 3rd party kernel modules with weak symlinks
