Windows VDI Spice Sessions fail to refresh the screen on Windows 7 guests in RHEV 3.1.4

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • Since upgrading the environment to RHEV 3.1.4, existing Windows VDI systems have poor performance with screen refreshes and often do not update/refresh the screen to the end user.
    • Example:
      • Typing a document, but the characters are not displayed as you are typing and you can't see the "blinking cursor".
      • If you go through and highlight the line, the text appears, or if you resize the window within Windows, the text/image/whatever you are looking for will appear.
      • This also works if you minimize/maximize/restore the window.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.1.4
  • Guest: Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2
