xfs_growfs fails with error: data size <xxxx> too small, old size is <yyyy>

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Attempts to extend an XFS filesystem using xfs_growfs fail. The command output indicates that the detected "data size" is smaller than the current "old size" of the filesystem:

    # xfs_growfs /data
